5 Ayurvedic Remedies to Help You Focus with ADHD

Updated: Feb 7, 2023

Do you feel like you're struggling to focus, especially with the demands of everyday life? You may want to try some ayurvedic remedies for focusing that can help those with ADHD or similar attention issues. Find out how these five remedies can boost your ability to stay engaged and focused!

1. Ghee and saffron are known for helping to support mental clarity and focus. Both have been used for

centuries in Ayurvedic healing to promote better concentration and clear thinking processes. Saffron also acts as an antidepressant, taking the edge off of stress that can take away from your ability to focus.

Combine a teaspoon of ghee with two tablespoons of saffron flakes and mix them together in hot water or your favorite warm drink. Consume this mixture before bed or when you need an extra boost of clarity during the day!

2. Brahmi oil massage and Shirodhara treatment are two ayurvedic treatments that can be used to relieve the symptoms of ADHD. Both use specific essential oils along with medicated oils to provide calming, rejuvenating effects that aid in brain function and concentration. The massage helps relax the mind and body as well as improve circulation, while the Shirodhara treatment soothes away stress and aids in mental clarity. These treatments should be done at least twice a week for best results.

3. Abhyanga is an ayurvedic massage therapy that helps relieve stress, fatigue and tension. It is a full body massage using aromatherapy oils that are specially blended for specific dosha types. Swedana is a sauna-like sweat therapy that helps remove toxins from the body. Both therapies help to relax the mind and body, improve circulation, restore lost energy and reduce anxiety associated with ADHD.

4. Eating a diet that is rich in protein and complex carbohydrates can help reduce inflammation and balance hormones which plays a role in focus and attention for people with ADHD. Complex carbs such as beans, grains, fresh fruits and vegetables

should be the main source of nutrient intake since they are broken down more slowly by the body. Protein-rich foods such as nuts, eggs, legumes and grass-fed meat contain important amino acids that provide an energy boost. Avoiding processed foods and sugary drinks will help to minimize hyperactivity associated with ADHD. 5. Ujjayi Pranayama is an ancient form of yogic breathwork meditation which helps to reduce stress, anxiety and increase focus and clarity of mind. It is done by inhaling deeply through the nose while partially constricting the back of the throat, then exhaling slowly through both nostrils imagined as two tunnels. As you continue this for a few minutes, your mind starts to quieten down and you become more in tune with your body’s rhythms. This process can aid in relieving symptoms associated with ADHD and fostering greater mental clarity.
